Training courses

At Hampton Pool we run a variety of training courses with the most popular being the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).

Since our first course, we have transformed over 1,000 individuals into Lifeguards with a nationally recognised qualification.

Along with the NPLQ qualification we also run Swim Teaching Courses (STA) and Pool Emergency Procedure Courses. These courses are a great way to kick start your Lifeguard or Swim Teaching career!

All courses are run by Hampton Pool and are taught by experienced and professional experts.

Our NPLQ courses are run by Tina Marley. She also carries out regular training sessions for our own lifeguards, ensuring a high standard throughout their careers.

STA Teaching Course

To join one of our accredited teaching courses, either the beginner’s STA Award or the STA Certificate full course, you will need to be 16 years of age and over and able to swim 25 metres.

To be able to gain your certificates and become a member of STA, you will also need to complete an online child protection test and either an NPLQ or Pool Rescue course.

If you would like to sign up to one of our STA courses, please fill out an application. If you have a question regarding the course you can send us an enquiry here.

National Pool Operating Procedure Course (NPLQ)

The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is widely accepted by swimming pools in the UK and Ireland as a minimum qualification as a role of a lifeguard within the swimming pool.

The course includes swimming pool rescue skills; basic life support; basic first aid; managing a casualty suffering from a spinal injury; managing a swimming pool environment; identifying hazards that could cause harm to users; and much more.

To enrol on this course, candidates:

  • must be 16 or older;
  • must be able to reach the deepest part of the swimming pool and pick up a manikin;
  • swim 70 metres in 80 seconds;
  • swim 200 metres continually;
  • jump or dive into the swimming pool;
  • exit the swimming pool unaided.

If you are interested in attending this course please fill in the following NPLQ Training Courses Application Form.
