Training courses
At Hampton Pool we run a variety of training courses with the most popular being the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).
Since our first course, we have transformed over 1,000 individuals into Lifeguards with a nationally recognised qualification.
 Along with the NPLQ qualification we also run Swim Teaching Courses (STA) and Pool Emergency Procedure Courses. These courses are a great way to kick start your Lifeguard or Swim Teaching career!
All courses are run by Hampton Pool and are taught by experienced and professional experts.
Our NPLQ courses are run by Tina Marley. She also carries out regular training sessions for our own lifeguards, ensuring a high standard throughout their careers.
National Pool Operating Procedure Course (NPLQ)
The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is widely accepted by swimming pools in the UK and Ireland as a minimum qualification as a role of a lifeguard within the swimming pool.
The course includes swimming pool rescue skills; basic life support; basic first aid; managing a casualty suffering from a spinal injury; managing a swimming pool environment; identifying hazards that could cause harm to users; and much more.
To enrol on this course, candidates:
- must be 16 or older;
- must be able to reach the deepest part of the swimming pool and pick up a manikin;
- swim 70 metres in 80 seconds;
- swim 200 metres continually;
- jump or dive into the swimming pool;
- exit the swimming pool unaided.
