swimming and social club
Become a member and enjoy the use
of the pool outside public swimming sessions in
a quieter environment. As a member you will be required
to give practical help in working parties to the
pool. In the summer months there are BBQ’s
where you can meet fellow swimmers and their families.
The Swimming and Social Club was established in
1985 when a group of local people saved Hampton
Pool from permanent closure and it became the focal
point for the volunteers who raised money, cleared
rubble and restored the pool for use by swimmers.
Voluntary work is still a priority and is expected
from all members. The club is a social club, not
a sports club and no coaching or sport activities
are offered. The club has a friendly and relaxed
ambience with the accent on enjoyment. Lane swimming
is available at all club sessions but there is
plenty of room for families to enjoy themselves
in both the main pool and the smaller teaching
pool. The intention is to foster that community
spirit and have a jolly good time as well. The
club meets on four occasions each week during the
peak season only when members have the privilege
of swimming outside of normal public opening hours.
A number of fund raising events take place during
the year.
Members do have an obligation to participate in
fund raising activities and to attend the various
working weekends. Regular gardening commitments
are always welcomed.
