No-one better embodies the dramatic transformation in the British Jazz scene over the past twenty years than Courtney Pine. The saxophonist heads a new generation of exciting and innovative musicians who have chosen to turn their talents to the demanding requirements of jazz music.

Tonight’s show will feature material from his latest album, Transition In Tradition (a tribute to Sidney Bechet), arguably his best album and work to date. His latest band features Zoe Rahman on piano, Cameron Pierre on guitar, Omar Puente on violin, Darren Brown on bass and Robert Fordjour on drums who are all distinguished musicians on the jazz circuit with their own bands.
Courtney was awarded a C.B.E for services to music in the 2009 New Year's Honours.
Here are some recent write ups for his latest CD, Transition In Tradition:
FOUR STARS "..Laden with memorable melodies, his best album since his 1986 debut" Observer Music Monthly
5/5 "Pine is superb..." The Guardian
"....top of his form..." The Independent
FOUR STARSThe Times, MOJO and Uncut
'Pine serves up a creole gumbo of Caribbean, Latin and African flavours with
the nuanced power to restore the most jaded jazz palate - 'the Jazz Warrior
succeeds in broadening our minds as well as our ears' FIVE STARS BBC Music Magazine
'Bursting with Pine's typically memorable themes and exuberant soloing'
