Dick King-Smith’s fabulous farm yard adventure, cleverly adapted for the stage by top children’s playwright David Wood for Theatreworks, tells the enchanting tale of lovable ‘sheep-pig’ Babe.
Farmer Hogget wins the polite and adorable piglet at a village fair – when he correctly guesses his weight, and we immediately witness an unmistakeable bond between the pig and the man. Motherless Babe is taken back to the farm to grow up amongst sheep and sheep-dogs. He has many adventures and rises to a few challenges – including fighting of Sheep rustlers!
Under the gentle guidance of a mother sheep-dog named Fly, Babe, intriguingly, learns how to successfully herd sheep – and enjoys himself immensely! Impressed by the little pig’s sheep herding skills Farmer Hogget decides to enter him in ‘The Grand Challenge Sheep Dog Trials’.
Can a small pig beat a real sheep-dog and win the challenge cup? Will kindly Farmer Hogget be laughed at and disqualified for entering Babe? Join the cast of actors and puppets at the sheep-dog trials to cheer Babe on and find out what happens.
